I hope everyone had a great Memorial Weekend! What a great opportunity to remember those that are gone, especially those that fought for our freedoms. THANK YOU!!

In August we are going to have a Super Saturday. I would love to get your input on what to have that day. What are some crafts, classes, and/or activities you would like to do? Anything is game!! Also what are some things you would like to see on the blog! I want you to be able to come to this blog to get whatever information you might want. I want this to be useful and informative.

Visiting Teaching Conference

On June 3, 2012. The Relief Society is inviting all women in the ward to attend our Visiting Teaching Conference. To those of you who are not in relief society during the allotted time, members of the Priesthood will be covering your positions so that you can attend this very important meeting. Please do not think that it is a free day because you don't have to teach. Please come and enjoy the message that will be presented. It will be during Relief Society at 1:00.

2012 Activities January-May

January 10.
Our First activity of the year! We had a good turn out. Our activity was based on the White Elephant game. Each sister brought something that they could share or do for someone. We wrapped up our "gifts" and opened each one individually. We have some great talent in our ward!! Some of the gifts were: Crochet necklaces and bracelets, hand crafted jewelery, handmade lotion, homemade jar openers, homemade plate with cookies. Others brought items that could be done later and at the receivers request, like "Giver will make a family home evening board for your family", "Giver will hemstitch two burps and a blanket for free", and "I will bring 1 dozen chocolate chip cookies to your door" and many others. After we opened all of the gifts we had a yummy hot chocolate bar with all the add-ins you can think of. We had a great time!

February 7.
We decided to hold this activity the first week in February because the 2nd week was Valentines Day. We felt that many sisters would want to be with their hubbies or families. We did a Valentine Card Service project. We had a great turn out and visited a lot.  We were able to get a list of names from Chancellor Gardens Retirement Center. We created a valentine card for each church member. Each card was unique and fun. We then had valentine sugar cookies to frost and eat. The cards were then taken to Sister Hazel Coffee, who is the Relief Society President at Chancellor. She passed them out during FHE which was the day before Valentines Day.

March  20.
Tonight's activity was a focused on the formation of the Relief Society. The theme was "Relief Society: the Past, the present, and the future". We started out with a beautiful musical number "Each life that touches ours for good" sung by Candice Baer, accompanied by Lacey McMillan. We then had two speakers about the past, who were Diane Brown and Joyce McBride. They spoke on what was hard and the most rewarding thing that happened while they were Relief Society Presidents. We then had our Current Relief Society President, Sister Nedra Thomas speak about the present conditions of Relief Society and what was difficult or special to her. Our last speaker was our Stake RS president, Sister Alice Preece. She spoke about the future of Relief Society. Each speaker had their own hardships and successes but all spoke the truths of the Gospel. Well done, Ladies! Before the speakers we were served dinner by the Elder's quorum. Such wonderful men!! We had Cafe Rio style salads, prepared by our very own Brother Bissegar (2nd counselor in the Bishopric). At the end of the evening we had a special gift for every Former and current Relief Society President at the meeting. It was amazing to see how many sister in our ward have been Relief Society Presidents. Thank you for your service!

April 14.
Stake Women's Conference. Instead of having our regular 2nd Tuesday meeting we wanted to support the Stake and attend their woman's conference. It was combined with the Young Women. The stake did a wonderful job. They had a fashion show that represented every decade since the 1900's. We had a few of our own members dressed up and strutting their stuff. Melanie Thompson, Celeste Matkin, Kylee Handy, Katina Wood, and Heidi Nelson. What a great time! After the fashion show, there was a beautiful musical presented called "The 10 Virgins". What a great musical. I hope those that were there felt the spirit just as much as I did. Lunch was then served. Following lunch 3 workshops were held. Each workshop focused on something different--Beauty and hair, relaxation and discovering your divinity, and a discussion of who influenced us most in our lives. They then gave each member a book of quotes that had been gathered throughout the stake that gave advice about many things in life--testimonies, finances, gospel, friendships, dating, etc. The stake did a wonderful job!

May 8.
Emergency Preparedness. We had a class about emergency preparedness which we had hoped to have more in attendance but we did have a scheduling conflict with the Temple and who can compete with the Temple! Thanks to those who came! We had a guest speaker lined up to come but he was unable to come at the last minute because of Pneumonia. So after 1 hour of scrambling for information to fill his slot I (Heidi Nelson) presented some information that I found on the Great Utah Shake Out website and the Clearfield City website. There is a video that is quite profound to watch that we showed and Clearfield City has a 12 point emergency plan that would be good for you to look up when you get a chance. After my little presentation, Lori Blau presented on emergency kits for home and car, and Marissa Harris spoke about a "to-go" box of important information and papers to "grab and go" in an emergency. We then had a food demonstration. Heidi Atkin showed how to use an oven mitt as an oven. The  food was really yummy even though it was "Emergency food". Our refreshments that night was Food storage chocolate cake. Sister Thomas made it special for us with her "Special" ingredient--any guesses???             Black Beans! Great job everyone! And Thanks again for your support  !

A Lot of Catching up!

I am going to try to get 2012 events updated so you can see how much fun we are having as sisters. Sorry, no pics to add. We just plain forgot to bring our camera to the first half of the years activities. :(
